Hollywood Hate of a Different Kind

There are very few female body types featured in movies or on TV. Honestly, this isn't just a Hollywood thing, it's a worldwide media thing. Skinny beyond belief with small tits or thin and curvacious seem to be what is acceptable. Yes, there are exceptions and there has been progress, albeit at the speed of a crippled snail on life support.

But you're thin and curvacious, Lacey, why do you care? Because there are too many girls out there with body image issues and eating disorders trying to be like these images of "perfection" even though it's all a bunch of digitally edited lies. Do you know how many teenage girls I've seen just recently that do nothing but talk about how fat they are? Girls that literally fucking starve themselves because they're scheduled for a fitting or coming to try on a dress that they just have to fit into?

No, the media isn't to blame for all of it, but they certainly play a big part in it. Celebrity endorsed weightloss products and machines, countless news stories on how this or that is bad for you and the newest diet trends all accompany the (airbrushed) magazines and (digitally edited) TV shows and movies. It's a juggernaut that assaults you from all angles telling you that you're wrong and disgusting and that you can't be happy if you've got fat on you. And it's not helped by the people in Hollywood who ARE heavy.

Take the woman who was supposed to be the champion of heavy women, she was gonna change everything! Melissa McCarthy. Yes, Mike and Molly was a sitcom, its purpose was to be funny. But every movie role she's taken on does nothing to further how heavy women are viewed. She plays a fat, stupid, food obsessed slob in just about everything she's been in. Why can't she have a serious part? If she cares at all about being a voice for heavy girls, why can't she turn down these ridiculous roles? None of them have turned a profit for the studios, so it's not like she's banking big money off of them.

There have been so few serious roles featuring heavy women, I honestly can't even think of any. There are people of all shapes, colors, sizes and ethnicities that have stories to tell, fictional and true. But the media machine seems content on repackaging the same crap year after year, making sequels, prequels and remakes that they obviously don't care. And the reason they don't care is because people keep buying it. Why reshape the mold when the old one still works so well?

So, there you go. That's why I hate Hollywood and the media. I have my shows that I watch, yeah. However, I find myself watching more true story type stuff (not Reality TV, crime documentaries, biographies, etc.) animal shows and sports than anything.

  1. Sweetie, you're my fucking heroine with this! Everything you said is so true and I agree with all of it. Overweight people know that being overweight isn't healthy, they don't need that fact thrown in their faces every half second. They (especially children) also don't need these ridiculous fucking stories portrayed in movies that the only way they'll fall in love is if they're pretty. You know, popular guy/girl falls for the outcast and outcast must change their appearence to gain acceptance within the pretty clique. Then the outcast remains true to him/herself (they never ditch the makeover, though!) and popular person falls for the real them. That's NOT life.

In real life, act 2 turns into popular person fucking around on you and calling you a psycho then smearing your naked body all over the internet. You wanna know what's fucked up? They don't make many major films like this anymore. They've dumbed it down just enough so that my kid watches this shit on Disney Channel. I know, because I've sat there and watched hours of it.

Also, thank you for not starting a stupid online petition or threatening a boycott, we all know how far those fucking things go... XD Love you tons, honey bunny! :3 *Kisses*

  2. Haha! You're welcome! Yeah, the movie studios wanna read those sooo bad! "LoseWeightFast signed on xx/xx/xx: Like our Facebook page!" I agree about the Disney crap, too. I haven't seen a ton of what they put on TV, but what I have seen is like the most unrealistic depiction of what teen life is like that I've ever seen. Walt thaws out just a little every time they make a new one. Love you, sweetie! Hope you're getting/got some sleep! XOXO ♥♥♥

  3. Exaaaaaactly. This. So much this. You are absolutely right, and so is Rei about the outcast-turned-pretty-girl idiocy. We are all bombarded with this shit, and it's AWFUL. I never actually saw Precious, but I believe it was about an abused girl, and the title role was played by Gabourey Sidibe, who was nominated for an Academy Award for said role. She is a larger lady, and from what I know, the role was quite serious. I think it's the only one I've ever heard of where someone who is overweight was given a role with actual substance and not just comic relief. This world is fucked up. It makes me ill. No wonder we all hate our bodies. Everything we see and hear is spitting hatred at us. I've gotten rid of a lot of things I used to look at because I realized they just made me feel shitty about myself (i.e. certain blogs, NOT THESE, ballerinas' Instagram accounts, etc). The ballerinas, btw, were not touting being incredibly thin, but their body shapes by virtue of their jobs and training were just making me feel crappy about myself. So I stopped looking at that. I'm still working on feeling okay about how I look. Maybe one day I'll get there. Love you.

  4. I love you, darling! You're exactly right and now I've gotta find that movie... I bet the three of us have a combined bra size bigger than the top three ballet troupes in the world... I actually saw something this morning that made me say "This is what Lace was talking about!" Kelly & Michael was on and they had some scrawny Brit supermodel from the new Mad Max turd they're releasing, then Rebel Wilson playing what else but the fat comic relief in the new film, Pitch Perfect 2. What a fucking surprise. Think I'd rather watch old lady lesbos... Ugh.

  5. So many of those ballerinas and gymnasts, too, do irreparable damage to their bodies trying to be that way, it's really sad. I get wanting to achieve a dream and wanting to stay there once it is achieved, but is it really worth a shorter lifespan? *Sigh* Thanks for all the wonderful comments and additions, ladies! Love you both, just the way you are! XOXO ♥♥♥♥
