Quick thoughts on Alice: Madness Returns

K, so I wanted to do a little post about what I think of the Alice game so far.

I'm definitely hooked on it, first and foremost. I've already put a little over 3 hours in and I had to force myself to stop. This is a pretty regular thing for me when I'm super into a game. "Just till the next checkpoint/level!" Then I've lost hours... lol This is definitely a good sign! :)

I really love the presentation and the twists on the Alice in Wonderland story. It is most certainly a dark game in just about every way. It's not pushing the PS3 to its limits by any means, but graphics do not a great game make. What's been done gives the game charm and lends a gorgeous sort of storybook meets noir graphic novel quality to the visuals. It's got great use of color, lighting and some really cool effects! :) Alice and all of the characters from the story that I've encountered so far look awesome, too!

The gameplay is a good mix, too. It's not just hack-n-slash, a collectathon or exploration, it's all of them. The combat is fun and I love the enemies and how they were designed, all of it! I like to explore every inch of levels looking for items or collectibles and this game lets me do that. I have missed an enemy here and there and not been able to proceed, which can leave me frustrated, but that's minor. Hysteria mode? Yes, please! :)

I'm not terribly far into it, I don't think. But I love it and I definitely want to keep with it! It's a shame that there aren't more games that are this imaginative or that are dark twists on popular stories. Thank you for bringing this game to my attention, Adra! I like venturing outside of what I normally play sometimes and this is definitely different! Should sleep soon... I dream about games a lot, especially if I'm really into what I'm playing! ♥♥♥
